I wonder why in the opening prayer before the speech of PGMA, though religious groups were represented there: Catholics, Protestants, INC’s, and Muslims, during the prayer, the name of “God” was not even mentioned (or “Allah” for the case of the Muslims). Ahmmm. I think it should have been better if the name of the Almighty was mentioned, rather than just using “He” or “You”. This is alarming since nowadays, any act of uttering words may be already considered a prayer, but not necessarily a prayer for the Lord God in heaven. It may be a prayer for a “god” (intentionally, starts with a small g), for a soul who passed away, or even for bad spirits. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. It’s like singing a song wherein general pronouns, like “you” were the only ones used, leaving the mystery to the listeners to whom is the song really dedicated to. The bottom line is when we pray, we must always mention the name of the Lord. To illustrate this: what would you do to call someone’s attention in a crowd with full of people? Would you rather call that person by his name or call him with a general call? Others might think that they are the ones being called, right? See, that is what I mean. Besides, the Bible says that the name of the Lord is the name above all names, giving us the confidence. He is feared above all, such that by merely saying “in the name of the Lord”, any bad spirit could already be in the state of fear and fright.
The president made a good point when she said that, “Thank God I did not let my critics stop me”. Come on. Criticisms have destroyed a lot – relationships, organizations, and lives as well. As what this line tells us, IN THIS WORLD, THE EASIEST THING TO DO IS TO CRITICIZE. Being a critic is the only profession where anyone could be involved in. My point is, sometimes, it is better not to be affected by what other people says. For as long as you know that you are doing the right thing, nothing to worry about. Whoa, let me rephrase that, we need not to worry, for as long as we know that we are on the Lord’s side. I remember the story of the frog:
On a frog community, a climbing competition was held where participants have to climb a big rock. During the contest, the climbing was so tough. Pressure reached the crowd such that the spectators thought it is impossible for any of the contestants to reach the aim, so they discouraged the participants, with noises and howls. Most of the contestants gave up because they listened to the crowd’s advice, except for this certain frog who was eager to continue, despite the difficulty, and there you have it, he reached his goal. At the end of the contest, that frog was interviewed and was asked what made him stay on the competition. He did not say a word, until they found out that he is actually deaf. He can’t hear anything.
See, if that frog only listened to the people, he could have not won the prize. This is a lesson that we have to ponder – focus and concentrate on your own. Mine is just an opinion. There are also cases wherein you have to listen to others who have golden intention. On that note, let us remember that to know whether a criticism is a constructive or destructive one, we must seek the Lord’s help. Ask Him signs to know if we have to consider what other says. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Going back to our original discussion, truly, our president has done a lot for our country for the past years. With the title as being the best president in terms of economic growth, nothing could be said of her contributions despite the criticism of others. You may say that I am a pro-GMA. Yes, I may be one and it’s not because I want to become “different”. You see, performance is not all about looking at the bad side. Sometimes, we have to look on the brighter side. Think about it. We tend to look life as being half-empty, and not half-full, right? It’s because, human as we are, we see things that are lacking rather than the things that are already there. I remember days before the SONA, how the survey ratings would show how the satisfactory ratings of the president based on the Filipino people and its always far negative. If the president is not strong-willed, she could have given up, but she didn’t. It just shows that no matter how hard you try to bring something good, you cannot please all. Remember this: it is always impossible to please everybody, but it is always possible to please the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
